Green Cone Flower
Rudbeckia laciniata

Wetlands, Wet Meadows Plant

Green Coneflower is a tall stately plant that is ideal for meadow gardens and the back of perennial borders. It flowers in late July thru September. The yellow petals are reflexed backward away from the green center. Insects such as bees and butterflies come daily to feast on its nectar.

Green Cone Flower can attain a height of 9 feet under optimum conditions. It prefers a moist soil  and to be planted in full sun or part shade. It tends to stay shorter in the shade it usually gets about 4 feet or so. You can control the height by cutting the plant in half in mid June.

Green Coneflower forms a clump and spreads by seed. The seedlings are easily pulled out when  they  are young. I plant Green coneflower with red monarda. They both keep each other in line. It also looks really nice when planted with red cardinal Flower or Joe Pye weed.
